Comentário de Roy Hersh ao Quevedo Rosé
Nota do editor: no inicio de Maio tivemos o prazer de receber na nossa adega o Sr. Roy Hersh, do For the Love of Port, durante o Fortification Tour 2009.
From what I have been told, this wine is now available in Portugal, The Netherlands, Denmark and Germany. I tried it while visiting the Quevedo family and it is a very sweet version and especially if mixed in a Port Tonic this should be a great success. This was the third Port producer’s Pink/Rose Port I’ve tried so far.
In a future newsletter, I will recount our recent visit to Quevedo during the 2009 Fortification Tour in May. We had a really terrific time at their property, which to put this in perspective, is very close to Quinta de Vargellas in the Douro Superior. The wines and especially their Ports, from LBVs dating back to 1968, a few Vintage Ports, a very solid 10 year old Tawny and a handful of Colheitas too, were a tremendous and pleasant surprise!
Not prepared to release my tasting note yet, but I must say that the 2007 Quevedo Vintage Port that I had that afternoon, as well as the bottle I tasted blind over three days, was mighty impressive. This is a Port shipper to keep an eye on. I can only hope that they will find an importer in the USA!Speaking of which, I believe they are coming over to America next month to partake in the American Wine Bloggers Conference. If you have not visited the Quevedo blog as of yet … go check it out.
Last and definitely not least: There is more great news from the Quevedo family. They will be releasing their first Colheitas to the aforementioned marketplaces, which will include the 1992, 1994 and 1995 vintage Colheitas. We tried others as well, going back to 1968, but that is a story for
another day. My favorite of the new releases was the 1994 which was wonderful for such a youngster!

Hi Christopher,
Thank you for posting here this information.
It is the first time I hear about Rabelo Rosé. I had never seen anything from Gall & Gall as a Port Wine producer or bottler. Did you find any other mention to any other producer on the label/back-label?
Hi Oscar,
Gall & Gall is a large retail chain liquor store / offliscence in the netherlands. They sell all kinds of alcoholic products. Rabelo is a port brand that is sold at Gall & Gall, but possibly via other supply chains also.
You should checkout their website. http://WWW.GALL.NL
Rabelo has several different ports in their collection. The ones for sale at Gall & Gall range from €5.49 to €10.49 (Euro’s) Rabelo Pink is €9.99 (euro’s)(75CL)
Rabelo Aged Ruby Late bottled Vintage is: €10.49 (Euro’s)(75CL)
According to the Gall & Gall website.
(RABELO PINK)
Taste: Lightly sweet, red fruit.
Good in combination with: Olives & Fruit dessets.
The only information I can find on the internet about Rabelo is that it is a Portuguese boat, A Barco Rabelo, but Rabelo is also the name of a Flemmish wine merchants company. This Belgian company imports & distributes Ramos Pinto port wines, but also other products like traditional portuguese furniture and wines. I am not sure if this company is behind the port label “Rabelo”, but you could always email them at: http://www.wijnhandelrabelo.net
I hope I have sufficiently informed you. If you have any questions let me know. By the way most of these websites are in the Dutch language, but they may have an english language option.
Sincerely,
Christopher D J woodman

Service Temperature 8-10ºC
Tasting Notes It’s a Port wine of a light Ruby style, which presents a pinkie colour. Result of a limited contact with the traditional coating of the Douro varieties during the vinification.
This innovative port wine is lighter, reducer and very fruity. Serve chilled, delicious as desert.
Have fun.
Christopher

Hi All,
Recently I tried pink/rose port for the first time. It was a Rabelo Pink. Sofar I can see it was produced for Gall & Gall, an offliscence in the Netherlands.
Notes:
The colour was faily dark for a rose, but definately lighter that a regular ruby.
The taste was sweet, but not overly complex. It was plesant, and worth drinking again. (I tried it at a B-B-Q)
I have found eight different pink ports on internet, could anybody let me know if there are more?.
1. QUEVEDO ROSÉ
2. CROFT PINK
3. ROZÈS ROSÉ
4. RABELO PINK
5. POCAS PINK
6. OFFLEY ROSÉ
7. KOPKE ROSÉ
8. CRUZ PINK
Sincerely,
Christopher D J Woodman
